Managing menopause in the workplace is critical to ensure talent is retained and money is not wasted in lost productivity and recruitment costs.
In addition, the newly published Employment Rights Bill means employers with more than 250 employees will be legally required to publish a Menopause Action Plan - voluntary adoption is encouraged from April 2026 with mandatory compliance set for 2027.
A recent survey of 2,000 UK working women aged 40-60 by CIPD, Menopause In The Workplace, found the following:
- Most women have experienced menopause and over half have been unable to go into work at some point due to menopause symptoms
- Workplace support makes a big difference but only a quarter say their company has a menopause policy in place
- More than a quarter say the menopause has had a negative impact on their career progression
- Employers are losing around one in six people due to a lack of support
The UK Parliament’s Menopause and the Workplace report cites 14 million working days lost each year to menopause, which equates to £1.88 billion in lost productivity.
