About SYLK and its ingredients
SYLK and SYLK Bliss are both made from natural ingredients, are hormone and paraben free, glycerin free, water-based and odourless.
SYLK contains a unique plant extract – the kiwifruit vine gum. The vine gum replicates the vagina’s natural pH balance and is very similar in feel to natural lubrication. Click here to see our full ingredients list.
SYLK Bliss contains extracts of plant adaptogens - ashwaghanda and maca gum. These are well-known for supporting libido and aiding relaxation.
Yes. The plant extract comes from the vine gum, not the kiwifruit and is therefore safe even if a kiwifruit allergy is present.
Our skin, including the vaginal area, absorbs small quantities of everything we put on to it. Products made by reputable manufacturers and sold by reputable retailers are rigorously tested for safety. However, the cumulative effect of all the toiletries and cosmetics we use can sometimes, in some people cause reactions or allergies. At SYLK we believe less is more, which is why our products are water-based, glycerin-free, free from parabens and hormones, and made from natural ingredients.
Parabens are common chemical preservatives found in everything from food to shampoo. They have been used by cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies for many years and are considered safe. In recent years some research has suggested parabens disrupt hormones in people and the environment, and they have been found in cancer tumours. Many consumers now choose to buy paraben-free products. We've written more about Parabens and SYLK being paraben-free here.
No. SYLK is free from parabens and other controversial chemicals.
The healthy vagina has a natural pH which is slightly acidic (pH 3.5-4.7), creating a hostile environment for harmful bacteria. The acidic nature of the vagina essentially helps kill off invasive bacteria, such as thrush or other infections, and protects this delicate environment. So we need to make sure what we’re using doesn’t disrupt this important balance. If the pH balance is disturbed bacteria can multiply causing infections. This is why SYLK matches the pH of a healthy vagina, unlike a lot of alternative natural remedies, such as coconut oil which much less acidic.

SYLK & Pregnancy
No. Whilst SYLK will not harm you, most lubricants should be avoided when trying to conceive. Normally the vagina is slightly acidic, but when we ovulate the pH balance in the vagina changes to around 7. This neutral pH state assists conception. The pH balance of SYLK (like most other lubricants) can affect the movement of sperm, so should be avoided.
We recommend that you shop for specialist sperm-friendly lubricants specifically designed to assist in conception.
